You’re here, you are engaged! The warmest and biggest congratulations from me to you. One the the first things to do now is to have your engagement portraits taken. But do you really need them? Here, I give my take on the top 5 reasons why an engagement session is important.
1. BUILD A STRONG FOUNDATION.
Scheduling an engagement shoot helps you and your photographer build a stronger relationship. “Rome wasn’t built in a day” they say and neither should your relationship with your photographer. When you are comfortable in front of the camera it will show in your wedding day imagery and lend to a more fulfilling experience with your photographer.
2. GREAT IMAGES.
An engagement shoot with produce beautiful images that will be family heirlooms and can be used for your save the dates, announcements, and social media posts leading up to your wedding day.
3. UNDERSTAND POSING.
I use engagement shoots as a foundation to build a “posing framework” where I teach you how to pose and feel comfortable in front of the camera.
4. DIAL IN VISON.
An engagement session will help you dial in your vision for the style of imagery you are most drawn to (traditional, lifestyle, or a balance of the two). If there are any standout images you love, or dislike I make sure to discuss them with you prior to the wedding day.
5. IMPROVE WEDDING DAY IMAGERY.
By creating a tie and space to build a stronger relationship with your photographer, having the opportunity to practice posing, and discover a more dialed in vision of your wedding day imagery vision leads to overall better images on your wedding day, especially when having to adhere to a specific timeline.
